FAMILY EXPECTATIONS

Arrival and Pick up Times
School starts promptly at 8:30 am, please have your child here by 8:15 am so that they are ready to start the day on time. We have complimentary staff supervision of elementary students from 8:00 am until classes start in the morning each school day.

School ends at 3:30 pm on Monday-Thursday and at 2:25 pm on Fridays. Students are expected to be picked up by 3:45 pm Monday to Thursday and 2:45 pm on Fridays. Any elementary students who are not picked up by this time are brought into the building and taken to our Extended Supervision program.

After School Late Pick-up Students who are not picked up after school by the time outdoor supervision has ended will be brought to the Extended Supervision program and parents will be billed the drop-in rates shown below for their child’s late pick up. Please note: All elementary students must go to the Extended Supervision program after outdoor supervision ends and they may not wait in the office, hallways or outdoors. A parent or another designated adult must come to the Extended Supervision room to sign their children in and out of the program.

Extended Supervision Program - We offer extended supervision before school starting at 7:00 am and after school until 5:30 pm. See the office for rates and Extended Supervision enrollment forms.

VOLUNTEERING
Parental involvement is a hallmark of our school. We have two main volunteer programs at our school that all families are required to be a part of.

Volunteer requirements
Each volunteer must complete a Volunteer Application form, read the Moral Conduct Policy and sign to indicate their agreement with it. You are also required to provide us with a Police Record Check that includes vulnerable sector screening. (We can supply you with a letter to take to your police detachment that will enable you to get this done for free.)

Classroom Support Parent Program
One parent from each family is expected to contribute approximately four (4) mornings a year, assisting with classroom support in the elementary school. Many parents choose to do more than this. A Classroom Support Parent’s (CSP) duties consist of helping with supervision at recess, assisting in the classroom and may include photocopying and other miscellaneous duties. The office staff assign a CSP schedule for the day when you come in. The classroom teacher will give you some duties to do once you are in their classroom.

Parents with children in kindergarten are only expected to provide classroom support in the kindergarten classroom. These CSP days are full days. Kindergarten CSP’s are exempt from doing classroom support in the elementary classes.

ACA Family Volunteer Program
Families with children at Airdrie Christian Academy are expected to volunteer over and above the Classroom Support scheduled days. This is one way to keep the cost of tuition low. Each family is expected to volunteer 16 hours (8 hours for Kindergarten-only families) per school year. We ask that you complete 8 hours (4 hours for Kindergarten-only families) in each half of the year. Parents are required to give us a deposit of $250 ($130.00 for Kindergarten-only families) for this program. At the time of registration, each family submits two deposit cheques of $125.00 for each semester to fulfil this volunteer commitment ($65.00 for each semester for Kindergarten only families). This may be paid with cash or with two post-dated cheques, one dated for January 31^st, 2020 and one dated for June 30^th, 2020. At the end of each semester, we will return your deposit to you if you have completed your volunteer time, or deposit your payment if your volunteer commitment for that semester has not been completed.

Each family will receive a form to sign up for different volunteer opportunities that we have scheduled throughout the year. There may also be other volunteer opportunities advertised in our school newsletter that you can sign up for to help fulfill your volunteer requirements.

Please note that this program counts the volunteer time for all the members of your family (over the age of 10), so encourage your children to work with you toward your required hours where possible.

All parent volunteers must have a current Police Record Check on file with the school office.

FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is another avenue we use to keep our tuition rates lower. In our parents commitment it says: “I understand that tuition does not cover the full costs of educating my child(ren) and will raise a minimum of $250 ($100 for kindergarten only families) either through fundraising or additional payments.” We offer a number of fundraisers through out the school year to make this achievable for parents. You can choose to participate in our school fundraisers to reduce your fundraising commitment balance or you may pay out the fundraising commitment amount. Fundraising is a requirement for all families, it is not considered a donation and is therefore not tax receiptable.

PARENT CONNECTION MEETINGS
The school holds 3 Parent Connection Meetings and 1 Annual General Meeting through out the school year to connect with parents and to keep them informed. Parent-Teacher Meetings and Parent Connection meetings are vital to building a strong school community. By attending these meetings you can earn $25 per meeting towards your fundraising commitment. (Attendance will be taken.)

Please make a point of reading this information so you stay informed about what is going on at school. ACAconnects Internal Website: The ACAconnects Internal Website is another important communication tool that we use at the school. Go to www.aca-connects.com to access all the information you need! You will find information like, what students are learning in the classroom, assignments, tests, hot lunch forms, field trip forms etc. It is a password-protected site for parents and staff to keep connected. You will find our school calendar, various forms as well as links to our teachers’ blogs for the elementary grades and google classroom for secondary grades. For existing users, your login credentials will remain the same, but for new users you will be sent an email with instructions on how to set up an account in order to gain access to this website. This site should always be your go-to site when looking for school information.

PowerSchool: Student attendance and marks are recorded on the PowerSchool system. Login information is sent home for all parents and for students in grades 7 and up so they can track their progress throughout the year.

This includes information about the school including our parking lot rules, staff directory, school rules, dress code and a variety of policies. Please read this information and make sure your children are aware of the information and rules contained in this document.

PLEASE NOTE: Photos, videos or images of students attending or participating in school activities (e.g. chapels, concerts, art showcases, field trips, sporting events, clubs, graduations or other ceremonies), which are open to the public, may be taken by ACA Staff, the public-at-large, including journalists, reporters, videographers and other members of the media and used for purposes within and outside the school. ACA cannot control or prevent the further distribution or use of these photos, videos, images or other personal information on social media by those who access the information.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF FIELD TRIPS
Your son / daughter will be involved in a variety of activities and Field Trips, which involve the student leaving the school grounds by bus, parent or staff driver or on foot. (Kindergarten uses the bus for all their field trips.) School policy requires the school to have the consent of parents each time the student leaves the school grounds. We will send home a permission slip for every field trip. Please sign and return these forms prior to the date of the field trip.

Parents have the right to obtain as much information as they require about these field trips and associated risks and hazards, including information beyond that provided to me by the school.

Parents should realize that there are risks and / or hazards inherent in any field trip and acknowledge that their child may suffer personal and potentially serious injury due to an unforeseeable event associated with his / her participation. Potential known hazards include but are not limited to the following: injuries related to falls, insects, animals, water, mud, and other outdoor hazards.

Parents are responsible to inform their child that he / she is to abide by the rules and regulations, including directions and instructions from the school’s and / or service provider’s administrators, instructors, and supervisors over all phases of the program/activity.

It is the parent’s responsibility to advise the school of any medical and / or health concerns of their child, which may affect his / her participation in the stated field trips.
Your son / daughter will be involved in a variety of activities and Field Trips, which involve the student leaving the school grounds by bus, parent or staff driver or on foot. (Kindergarten uses the bus for all their field trips.) School policy requires the school to have the consent of parents each time the student leaves the school grounds. We will send home a permission slip for every field trip. Please sign and return these forms prior to the date of the field trip. SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES The school will make every reasonable effort to ensure or ascertain that: There is adequate staff or volunteers and / or service providers involved are suitably trained and qualified. The students are adequately supervised over all aspects of the program / activity. The location(s) used are appropriate and safe for the activity and group. Equipment used has been inspected and deemed appropriate and safe. CONSENT AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK Parents have the right to obtain as much information as they require about these field trips and associated risks and hazards, including information beyond that provided to me by the school. Parents should realize that there are risks and/ or hazards inherent in any field trip and acknowledge that their child may suffer personal and potentially serious injury due to an unforeseeable event associated with his / her participation. Potential known hazards include but are not limited to the following: injuries related to falls, insects, animals, water, mud, and other outdoor hazards. Parents are responsible to inform their child that he / she is to abide by the rules and regulations, including directions and instructions from the school’s and / or service provider’s administrators, instructors, and supervisors over all phases of the program/activity.
